Cowhide Size Guide

Every cowhide is a natural, one-of-a-kind hide, so there are no standard sizes. Instead, each hide is measured individually and listed with its exact size, so you know how it will fit before you order.

How Our Cowhides Are Measured

  • Width × length, in centimetres. Every listing title shows the hide's size, for example Natural Brazilian Cowhide 204 x 243 cm.
  • Area in square metres. The product description also gives the total area, which is the easiest way to compare two hides.
  • The hide in the photo is the hide you receive. Each picture shows that exact piece, measured on its own.

Medium or Large?

We group our hides into two sizes, mainly by length. These are the typical ranges across the hides we stock; the exact size of each hide is always on its listing.

Size Typical width Typical length Shop
Medium about 185–215 cm up to about 220 cm Medium cowhides
Large about 180–230 cm about 220–260 cm Large cowhides

Choosing the Right Size

  1. Measure your space. Note the width and length of the area you want the rug to cover.
  2. Mark it out. Use masking tape or a couple of tape measures on the floor to outline the hide's width and length. It's the quickest way to see how it will sit with your furniture.
  3. Allow for the shape. A cowhide has a natural, organic outline rather than straight edges, so it won't fill a rectangle edge to edge.
  4. Compare by area. If you're torn between two hides, the square-metre figure in each description tells you which covers more floor.

Good to Know

  • Natural, non-slip backing. The back of each hide is natural suede, so you don't need a rug pad.
  • Folds settle quickly. Hides travel folded, and creases usually relax within a few days. See our Care Guide for stubborn ones.
