Care Guide
Natural hides, wool and leather are easy to look after and, with a little care, last for many years. Here's how to keep each of our products at its best. Always check the listing for your item too.
Cowhide Rugs
Everyday Care
- Cowhide doesn't hold dust and dirt the way woven rugs and carpets do. A regular shake or vacuum is all it needs — always in the direction of the hair.
- Please don't beat the rug, as this can damage it.
- Keep it away from direct heat and prolonged sunlight.
Spills
- Blot the liquid straight away with a clean towel, using light pressure.
- Apply a little warm, soapy water to the area, then blot dry.
- Brush the hair in the direction it grows to keep it soft and lustrous.
Creases and Folds
- Folds from delivery usually relax on their own within a few days.
- For stubborn creases, dampen the back of the hide with a wet towel, roll the hide up and let it dry. That will flatten it.
Sheepskin Rugs
- Maintenance: Brush or shake lightly and regularly to keep the wool's natural texture. Avoid long exposure to direct sunlight to prevent discolouration.
- Washing: Pre-soak in 40°C water and wash on a wool cycle. Rinse until the water runs clear.
- Drying: Spin to remove excess water, gently comb the wool while damp and line dry away from direct sunlight. Let it dry slowly and stretch it by hand once dry.
- Alternative cleaning: Suitable for professional dry cleaning.
